Metro Phoenix is a beautiful area of desert landscaping and beautiful lakes. It is the only state capitol of over 1 million people. Native Americans have called this home for centuries and have a continuing influence on it’s culture since Phoenix was founded in 1881. Phoenix is the capital city of the state of Arizona. It is also the county seat of Maricopa County. It is also home to South Mountain Park, the largest municipal park in the country with over 16,00 acres.
Try walking up the mountains that make up this park, that would be a humbling experience. The sunrise and sunset views are breath taking. At the base of the mountain are picnic tables and majestic views. Take Central Ave. south and enter the park and plan to stay all day. Take plenty of water, you are going to need it.
After you have climbed Camelback Mountain, don’t forget Piestewa Peak, the second highest point in the Phoenix Mountains, after Camelback Mountain, and the third highest in the city of Phoenix, Arizona.
It is located in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Piestewa Peak is named in honor of Army Spc. Lori Ann Piestewa, the first Native American woman to die in combat in the US military, and the first female soldier to be killed in action in the 2003 Iraq War.
The business community in Phoenix supplies many of the provisions you will need to climb these mountains. Remember start early and end early if it is May through October. Take plenty of water and see one of our barber stylists soon.
We encourage you to continue to show your support for Phoenix small business and it’s local merchants as well as local residents and visitors. Connect with them right here.
